Act 2: Upheaval I - The Werewolf

Mihai blinks as he stares, then sighs - "That's his reason. There are some friends i'm looking for, and i believe one of the Szefowie can help me find them. Though that innocent people are dying is a solid motivator just the same."

"Wow, I've never seen you so passionate about civil matters Konrad. But yeah, those are his reasons. I'm here to save save our friends as well. Maybe if you help us help you, we can all save the people we care about. Win, win. Eh? Eh?" He flashes her his most ingratiating smile.

"I'm here to help my dummy of a brother," Amber says with a grin as she points to Mihai.

Florolf yips.

The Administrator stares at the party for a long moment, without saying a word. Finally, she joins her hands together and says, "I could offer you my support, but I would need something in exchange."

"And what would that be, Administrator?"

Mihai squints - "Besides killing the monster?"

"To find and capture the people responsible for the kidnapping of our citizens."

"Are we assuming the two are connected?"

Konrad loses the flare in his eyes and tilts his head at Steve. "I haven't forgotten why sailed here in the first place. I hope you understand how important this is to me now."

"That's for you to find out. A traveler from Lorinth told me that a band of crooks tried to kidnap him and the Defenders won't investigate the matter. Swear that you will do what they won't, and you'll have my support."

Konrad:

Steve answers Konrad quietly so as not to disrupt the conversation going on with the Administrator. "Never even crossed my mind. I really am just shocked by how much of a patriot you've turned out to be. I never would have guessed."

The back and forth between Mihai and the administrator is all that keeps silence from settling in and making a home when Konrad fails to respond.

At the word of Lorinth, Konrad gazes unaffectedly at the administrator. "He's safe now. Safe to hire protection. Must we tend to the unwary fanatics from the west?"

"What you wish upon others, wish upon yourself," she retorts. "If someone tried to kidnap you one day, would you be satisfied if the local authorities did nothing in response?"

The red mage is struck dumb by her words. For a moment, he says nothing, then, "We will investigate, and learn everything there is to know about the incident. I swear it. Do you want the crooks alive?"

Something seems to have gotten through to him.

"......"

"Preferably, yes," she answers. She looks at the two other adults in the room. "Shall I assume that you also accept?"

"I'll speak to the traveller but the Werewolf needs to take priority for now, before someone else dies tonight."

"Of course. But once the matter of the werewolf is resolved, do you swear to investigate the disappearances?"

"Yes."

Zawistowski turns to Steve next.

"Yes, but it won't be just us right? You'll help us with that too if you can?"

"I will," she says with a stern expression. "The Defenders won't."

"Then yes, I swear it."

"Good."

She stands up from her chair, which prompts Amber to instinctively do the same, and walks around her desk to face the party members.

"Anastazja Zawistowski,"she says while extending her hand forward. "Administrator of Odwaz."

Steve waits his turn and then firmly shakes her hand when it's time. "Steve Oldturn. Pleasure to meet you."

"Mihai Lowick." - he replies in turn.
