"I take it you receive that complaint far too often?"

"Unfortunately, I don't know. But if I were to guess, I imagine that some of them would rather hunt the monster alone."

To Konrad's question, she says, "It's more complicated than that."

Konrad frowns. "Foolish, and very troubling. We need three of them to accept our help, our job will only get more difficult if they don't. The werewolf will most certainly make a move on the szefowie, and we need to be there when they do."

"Any chance we could join the hunt officially, Administrator?"

Zawistowski raises an eyebrow at Steve's suggestion. She leans back in her chair and ponders this idea.

"...If I was to ‘hire’ you for this exact purpose, yes, you could. It might anger a few Szefowie however."

She sneers, clearly indifferent about the Szefowie's hurt feelings.

"Now that is strange to me. We all want to see this thing gone, why feel slighted against capable, trustworthy fighters officially allowed to go looking for danger?"

To Mihai, she replies, "It is not my place to say."

Then to Konrad, "No, the Szefowie don't want the same thing you do. Nor do they all share the same opinions."

Mihai sighs - "I thought it beneath them when lives are at stake, but slaying the murdering beast would be a boost for whoever managed to land it. Shame if a bunch of mercs from who knows where took the glory instead."

"Well I suppose there's nothing for it. Hire us. We need to keep an eye on the women szefowie. Even if we can't convince them to let us join them, we'll tail them if we must, and if one of them is responsible, we'll either stop them, or there will be no victim tonight. We have a 3-out-of-4 chance of this. If it is the fourth, or none of them at all, grim as it may sound, more will have to die if we are wrong."

Mihai glances aside laconically and blinks a few times at a loss for words, until he just shrugs - "Whatever is going on, there's no ignoring a group of people marching into a deathtrap with a monster on the prowl."

"It is unlikely one of the Szefowie is also the werewolf," the middle-aged woman informs the group. "They were yelling at each other when it first struck three days ago."

"I agree, but..." - he trails off - "...no, doesn't matter. One way or the other, i don't see how we'll avoid getting involved in their hunt. Only, we should get there before they do. We need a few hours to scout out the terrain and memorize the streets' layout. Worse than hunting in a maze, is hunting in a maze you don't know."

"Good idea. The wolf, wolves, or whatever this is has likely been doing just that. If she has any sense she's going to try to split everybody up. We'll have to try to keep them together."

Zawistowski chuckles.

"If you can manage that, I'll gladly give you my job."

Konrad relents with a nod.

"I see your point. I must admit, one is terrifying enough. And I haven't been back in ages, so I could use the refresher."

"Even if we can't pull that off, we can try and anticipate what the monster will do. So far, it's used the element of surprise to attack. It didn't even finish off the first witness, though it had every reason and opportunity to do so. If this is a trap for the Szefowie, it'll likely target the most proeminent members first." - he looks at Anastazja - "Duma? Zerva? Czelusniak?"

"Prominent in what respect?" the administrator replies. "Because there are many possible answers to that question."

"...How about who looks the most delicious?" Amber suggest.

Anastazja raises an eyebrow.

"What?" the teenager retorts. "It eats people."

"Though she kind of has a point, i mostly meant the ones that stand out the most, or the most likely to become the next First."

"I'm not one to bet on who's going to win the Tournament," the administrator says. "But I know that the Szefowie from Upartyn, Iekcewaz and Lekkomysl are unlikely to join the competition. They never seemed interested in becoming the new First."

Steve goes through a number of emotions over the next few seconds including shock, anger, and shock again before finally settling on exasperation. "Ana, you have my sincerest condolences. I honestly have no idea how you've lasted in this job. How do you get anything done?"
