Zenon Duma looks at Mihai like he's an idiot. "Okay, that one might be blind."

Angela can't help but chuckle.

"Well I think he has a point. Consider the viewpoint of our quarry. It likes to throw people around, mess them up, dig in and feast upon the flesh raw. In a word, mutilate. The best bait is someone as far away from that extreme as can be."

Deception 26
Whatever Duma says next, I'm gauging his words and behavior for any duplicity or the presence of an ulterior motive.

"It's a stab in the dark, sure. But it has gone after young people. I figure that the most tantalizing target for a brute what likes to wreck its prey ugly is a person of near-flawless beauty."

Zenon Duma, apparently confused by this line of questioning, squints at the adventurers. The other four Szefowie observes this exchange very carefully.

"Wait, you want to know why I believe you're going to choose Nadiezja?" he asks with incredulity.

Steve shrugs. "The Test goes both ways friends. Just as you try to figure out our motives and character, so we you."

Mihai holds the silence for a few more seconds after Steve speaks, just until it would otherwise become awkward - "Szef Duma, i believe you just convinced me." - he acquieces with a near-smile.

Then looks at Nadia, and his voice becomes plain and no-nonsense - "How soon can you be ready?"

"If you're willing, that is. If not, Angela might do I suppose. Or perhaps you'd like to rate your advisor on a scale of 1 to 10 for us?"

Nadzieja's answer to Konrad is short. "No."

Zenon blinks multiple times.

"Well, I'm confused now," he says. "Did I miss something?"

"I'm not sure," Oktawiusz replies. "It's clear they suspect you of something however."

"Of what? That I want to get into her pants? 'Cause I do, it's no secret."

The monk glances at Szef Duma again.

"Hey, you can keep that look for them. They're the ones who are too stupid to figure that out."

"No?" Konrad casts a glance over at Angela as if to speak, then thinks better of whatever it was.

"Then, who do you think ought to serve as bait, as per your idea?"

"All fourteen Szefowie," the monk replies. Shen then raises an eyebrow. "Are you slow? Or should we explain the plan to you one more time?"

"Please don't." - Mihai groans, as if nursing a migraine - "We'll never get out of here if you start sparring with him."

Then tries to focus again - "Can we go now?"

"Yes, let's go," Angela urges her compatriots.

"Then let us depart," Oktawiusz tells the small group. "We don't have much time left."

"Good hunt," Wanda says to the monk.

"You too," Nadzieja replies with a nod.

Zenon Duma bows to her like a gentleman before following the other Szefowie out of the Arena. Except for Oktawiusz' torch and the ones planted into the ground at the edge of the camp by the Myrzen workers, there's no other source of light at the moment, plunging the party into darkness.

"Could anyone light a torch?" the Zerva monk asks in fluent Imperial.

Konrad switches to Imperial. "We all have options as need arises."

He looks for Leopold's horde in the dim light. "I appreciate you staying behind to greet us and fill us in."

Nadzieja starts walking toward the Arena's exit, expecting the adventurers to follow her.

"The others are fine," she tells Steve. "Master Avalon has welcomed new orphans into the monastery and my aunt and uncles are still helping him. Volwind is an adult now, but he's decided to stay with his sister for the time being." She pause to mull over something. "I haven't had a chance to visit the graves of my other aunt and uncles yet... Maybe this year."

Konrad realizes he can't see the horde of warriors from inside the Arena.

The monk shoots a suspicious glance at the red mage when he thanks her. She considers her next words carefully. "We had to stay behind and learn what we could from you. And Leopold... Leopold is really suspicious of you." She shakes her head and looks at the adventurers. "I assume you're not going to tell me the real reason you're here?"

There is no accusation in her voice; only curiosity. By now, the party has almost reached the gates that lead outside the Arena.
