- "No." - he kinda snaps - "We go back to the village now and Velstar announces what happened, there'll be no containing this. People will be terrified of Yen and suspicious of Saemon, and this thing will snowball all the way to the Citadel."
He goes up to Velstar.
"Velstar, this is the journal of a woman who could insulate a wolf's mind from Raw Magic. The way it's guarded, and how everyone's been rushing to get it back, there has to be something major in here. There could be a way in here to help Yen and Saemon, but it'll be too late if everyone in Waterglass starts treating them like the plague."

Also, just musing here, but maybe we should start considering that our client is dead, we would have to explain to the Coins that we're the ones who killed her, and the fact that there's a good chance they didn't want us to succeed in the first place.

"Are you suggesting we skim the contents of this massive tome inside the fort? We can't afford to waste time on that while the people of Waterglass go restless at the absence of their town guard chieftain and a little girl."
- ooc:
They wanted us to succeed, K. They just didn't want to tell us that we were supposed to kill her, or any relevant information, because the moment we stepped inside the inn to meet her, that would have tipped her off immediately and she would have attacked us directly. There's no ill-formed conspiracy, all we have to do is tell them the truth: client's dead, but we got the journal, and the thieves are either captured or among the dead.

He awaits Velstar's response.
- ooc:
If anyone was supposed to kill her, it was the other guys the Wolf took care of. You have a point, but our contract wasn't an assassination, and they can either let us in on the bigger picture (possible, i admit), or claim deniability and toss us in a cell.
Also, i'm gonna be honest, Rory. If these guys' buyer can help Yen and Saemon, i'm going all in for it. I don't expect there to be no resistance from you guys, of course, but i guess we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it. Just letting you guys know it might be a possibility from me.

- As you approach Velstar, she gives final instructions to the members of the militia. They nod at her, then spread out. Two of them run south, towards the path leading to the village, and the three others stay near Saemon. The thieves, except for Molly and and Calla, approach the bodies of their colleagues and cover them with their cloaks.
Once the party reaches the warden, she explains the orders she has given.
"They're going to protect Amelia from her brother in case he wakes up," she says in a grim tone. "Bervlin and Brandon will scout the village, make sure that bitch hasn't left an unknown accomplice behind, and find out who else she killed."
If one party member voices their disapproval for fear of spreading the news, Velstar will reply;
"They won't say anything until I get there."
She listens intently to the party, and doesn't say a word even as she takes the journal presented to her. Without any hesitation, she turns her back to you, walks into the fort, and puts her hand on the lock. The mechanism melts at the touch of her hand, and the book is unlocked. She opens it, only to be left immediately aghast at the sight of its contents.
The pages are blank. A little compartment has been cut out within the book, and one strange object was left in it; a spherical globe half the size of an apple. It looks like one of those snow globes people use as ornaments, but instead of water, it contains an equal measure of all eight Elements, all swirling into each other the way oil and water do not mix.
"What the...?" |

- Mihai sees the globe, squints, then makes an observation - "Mages have to convert Raw Magic into an Element to make it safe. The Wolf was being buffered from the Raw Magic by an Element. And her precious journal contains nothing but an Orb with the eight Elements..."
Noticing Velstar's expression, he approaches her.
"The thieves may know more. That, or their buyer will, for sure." - he affirms, implying his intent to dig deeper. |

So, that post containing the contents of the bloody letter has mysteriously vanished, which is not cool, but I remember there being talk of an orb.
We'll be truthful, and then we'll see. Being locked up isn't the end of an adventure. Could be the start of a grand adventure. *Starts stockpiling skooma and shivs*
Konrad takes a moment to look at it. Because maybe that will help, right? "Well, in relation to what a contained element can be used for, what can it do? That's the real question."
And he might be about to tell you all - if you're(he's) lucky.
Spellcraft Knowledge Arcana(straight Int) What can this thing do? How was it made? |

It's all bloodied up, but you can tell the Oracle used to be one of his people before something happened and she went rogue. The one behind the theft of the journal was almost certainly him. He'll know what that thing is."

If the villagers go into a panic because of the Curse, even if we find a way to help them, it won't matter - they'll already be marked. Isn't there somewhere they can kept safe while we follow up on this?"

- Steve and Konrad don't know how the hell this thing is possible.
This globe seems to have a vitreous surface to it, like if the Eight Elements present within it were encased within glass. However, you detect only magic, and no physical component. What's more curious is that the energy doesn't dissipate as it should, which indicates there's a structure behind it, and thus a purpose. After some more examination, you determine that the Elements are continuously being rewoven, which is unheard of since there is no weaver present to make this possible. Moreover, this weaving process is done without any raw magic present, which is contrary to all you've been told.
Weaving requires a weaver, and raw magic, to obtain either a mundane object or a magical item. The magical item is then activated by its owner to automatically siphon raw magic through them, turn it into one or many of the Elements and reach a predetermined effect. But this orb seems to have eliminated essential requirements to this process, and is in fact sustaining itself.
Velstar shakes her head.
"If they see me beside them, they won't panic. They would have no reason to." |

What do I know about what the Myr,'s or my clan's, methods of dealing with Cursed people?

It's basically the same thing as the Citadel.
They bring the Cursed to one of the clan who proceeds to isolate the individual for at least one year to teach them how to prevent any other kind of outburst. When the Cursed achieved a minimum of control over their magic, they are allowed to interact with other people again, but it is limited. They are usually allowed to go out into the world once they reach adulthood, and even then, they will always be supervised by someone. Unless they decide to become fugitives, of course, in which case they send bounty hunters and marshals to track and capture them.
To not go through this training is dangerous for both the Cursed and the entourage. Such training is also only given by the mage academies, which is handled by the Citadel in the Free Feathers.
