Act 2: Upheaval I - The Werewolf

Amber blinks multiple times.

"A werewolf!?" Fluffle exclaims, sticking his head out of the teenager's hood.

"Okay. We're sort of lucky the Defenders came through and caught this and that we weren't too long after them. The creature pounced from there..." He points up at the roof, "...killing our lady in one blow. So then it brutalized and tossed the victim around, and after it uh, ate from the body, it tore off a leg and disappeared. Exactly like our little mascot did when I tried to scan him."

Mihai squints for a moment, as he thinks - "Konrad, can you weave us an object we'll be able to track from a distance?"

"Would come in handy if i can, but it's fine if only you and Steve can track it. Main thing is range and accuracy, and that it's shaped into something i can shoot or stab into the fucker and have it lodge in. See it try and vanish then."

From a distance, Amber asks, "So... how are we going to find it?"

"I'm not sure. If we could find out more about the victims we might be able to spot a pattern for the attacks. Then we'd just have to recreate the circumstances and hope it's around." Steve removes his hat and wipes the sweat off his brow before returning it to his head. A gesture of anxiety for anyone that knows him well.

"Then we need to find someone who knows about all the victims," Fluffle suggests.

He seems queasy at the sight of blood.

A bulb flashes in Konrad's eyes when Mihai specifies his request. "Ah, I see. Arrows it is. I'll put together something special."

"Hmm-hmm. The Defenders would definitely know, but they might get suspicious."

"Anyone else then?" Amber says.

She isn't as uneasy as before anymore, but she still stays away from the blood. Her eyes then notice something between her feet; Florolf, the carbuncle.

With his ears lowered, he looks at the blood.

"I may have an idea on the Defender front but I need to know more about how they work. Do you know how the Defenders are paid Konrad?"

"They're paid by donations from the 14 clans, of course. As for how, I never bothered to ask." He shrugs.

Mihai notices Florolf's interest and observes pointedly. Just doesn't say anything, for fear the creature will be thrown off just to spite him.

"We could try City Hall then. I bet they'd know. I'm honestly curious how things work in Myr. It won't be a stretch." That's when Steve notices Florolf doing his thing and walks closer to see what he's looking at. "Do you sense anything Florolf?"

"Hmm?" Konrad looks down and harumphs. "10 gold says he licks it."

Florolf looks at the red mage and growls at him. He then fixates his eyes on the blood again.

"...I don't think he likes the werewolf," Amber suggests.

"Of course he doesn't," Fluffle adds. "It's evil, and he's not."

Mihai's expression becomes more apprehensive when the Carbuncle appears growl in response a verbal remark, but otherwise says nothing.

Steve frowns at Konrad and then asks the furry creature, "Do you think you could find the creature if it were close enough, Florolf?"

Konrad takes a step back from Florolf, and regains himself after he goes back to picking at the scene. "Cholerny...What the hell?"

The carbuncle lowers its head once, and then looks back at Steve.

Amber and Fluffle exchange a glance.

Mihai just observes.

Steve smiles and says, "We've met talking statues, this really doesn't seem that strange to me." He shrugs and says to Florolf, "Cool. Have you ever seen anything like this thing before?"

Florolf tilts his head and wags his tail.
