| Smirk lightly shakes Nick has he holds him by the throat - "What's the matter with you, Summoner? Try harder!"
Sitting in his chair, Nick looks bored by it. |

| Sam just smiles, knowing that later they'll be playing for keeps. This was good practice. - Crushing the opposition:
Before the game, Sam drops by Nick's room to ask to talk to Smirk, hoping to convince the aspect to let her win. He refuses, and Sam gets somewhat desperate, saying that if he really wants to impress Anne, then they could play for something other than coin. You know, as long as she gets to walk away with more than she paid to get in.
"Do you see me wearing any clothes, Ms Walters?"
"No, I don't...but, Nick is," she says slowly, glad she doesn't have to be the one to say it.
"Yeah sorry. Summoner boy is way too shy to part with those in public. That's why he'll crush everyone."
Although discouraged, Sam continues, "I totally get that, and I wouldn't be asking if I wasn't okay with it... I would just kinda like to walk away with some coin. Between the three of us, how could that, um, be arranged?"
Smirk raises an eyebrow. "...Ok, I'm not sure if you're trying to be underhanded or indecent, but i must warn you my boy is now spoken for." He then ruffles Nick's hair - "It's okaaaay, you don't have to act like you're not looking forward to it."
"W-what? Oh nooo, it's nothing like that. Wait, who is it?" She's super interested in this now. "Wait, don't answer that, I think I know!" She's got a smirk on her face.
"Oh, it's--"
Before he can blurt it out, Nick suddenly snaps in irritation and snatches Smirk in a stranglehold, jamming his arm into the Aspect's mouth. Smirk doesn't try to break free and just flails like an idiot, trying in vain to speak through the improvised gag, while Sam just steps back, caught off guard by the sudden altercation playing out in front of her.
"Whoa. Hey, it's alright, you can tell me. Do you want my help?"
Snicker tries to respond. "Mmmffhmmfmmff......"
Sam's smirk has receded overcome by a look of empathy. "Nick, really, it's fine. I can help, if you want."
Nick gives her a weird look, momentarily loosening his grip on his aspect, who asks, "Help with what?"
"You know, I could talk to her, give you details about her, that kind of thing."
Both of them are fully aware of the fraternization policies within the ISA...but Sam decides, screw it, he's really sweet, and he just wants to get laid, right? Anne can decide for herself, of course.
Nick is at a loss for words, which coming from him doesn't mean much. Smirk is not: "Suuure! Give us all the jui--" Nick jumps at Smirk again, gagging him once more with his arm. "Bbbt mmffmhhmhffmfmff.....!"
Of course, just like Smirk to make the proposal sound indecent. Sam crosses her arms. "Smirk, please shut up. If you can't, I can just read lips."
Nick mouths, "Yeah, no need. I'm fine. We're all fine here, thank you. How are you?"
Sam gestures defeat with her hands. "Alright, fair enough. I guess we'll just have a fair game tonight, then."
After she leaves them both in Nick's room, closing the door behind her, she murmurs to herself, "Psyche, I'm totally cheating!"

| Samantha, Nick and Anne meet with a small group of sailors in the ship's hold for a clandestine game of poker. It is agreed that the squad will play against the crew's three best players while the rest watch from the sides—they're here to enjoy the company of attractive women anyway.
The terms of the game are thus: each player starts with the equivalent of 2 silvers, and the game ends only when one has taken all of the pot. Once everyone has agreed, the game starts.
It becomes obvious in the first few rounds that Anne is now familiar with the rules, but it's still quite easy to tell when she's bluffing. Nick being a mute helps tremendously when betting against the three sailors, and Smirk has a lot of fun taking their money from them. Samantha however is a shrewd player who knows how to lie well, and when to fold them. In only an hour and a half, she managed to clean the table and take all 12 pieces of silver for herself. The sailors do not mind one bit, and they gladly offer drinks to the squad members for a game well played. One of the three crew members who played against them—a brawny young man and boatswain of the Happy Frog—even propositions to Samantha when the party begins to die down. |

| Sam is really proud of herself. She thanks the guys for being good sports, and has drinks of the heavy stuff so that she can politely decline any offers for overtime in favor of sleeping off the booze, and maybe a hangover. |

| After a joyful evening, the squad members go to their cabins and turn in for the night. Only Smirk gets to spend the night on the upper deck, watching the stars shine in the sky. |
