Was it in a land where everyone speaks like this: le renard agile saute par dessus le chien paresseux? Were there others like you? Quickly, as an aside, do you have a name for what you are, or do you mind if we continue calling you what we have been?"
- ooc:
This is not in regard toward whatever offense she might feel from the name we've given her species, based on its derogatory use irl.
Konrad is just killing time until we reach the town, whereupon he will insist that we find someplace to convene just between himself, Steve, and Mihai.
On the way to town, he will go over the plan for Fedler and her people to help us. In which direction is the abandoned fort if we start from Waterglass? How far? She and the chief should meet with their people and get whomever they can to meet us a fair distance from the abandoned fort so as to avoid being spotted. We'll all meet up there tomorrow afternoon.
At Waterglass, Konrad will get his change for 10 gold, which he ran off without. |

She turns to Konrad, then answers him with a smile, "Oui. Les gens parlent lofellien d'où je viens." She fluently switches back to Imperial. "I also have lots of brothers and sisters over there! We all woke up one day in the forest, and we didn't how we got there. Maybe we were born from a magical tree?"
Stars appear in her eyes, as she lets her imagination get the better of her.
"Me and a few others decided to explore the world. It's so big!" She makes a large gesture with her arms. "But people always think I'm strange. Yen told me I was a fairy, and the books I read said the same thing. So that's what I must be, right?"
The name seems to make her proud. |

"If they were incompetent or lax, that says something equally underwhelming about our client's home security, but I think you should be more interested in the fact that fairies exist now, by her words, 'out of nowhere'. The Great Flood appeared out of nowhere too, and brought magic with it. Fairies are magical in nature, or at least Breeze is. I don't mean to cause a panic, but it doesn't sound like their existence will be a secret for long."

Saemon comments soberly, "Probably not, no."
She then mulls over his next question. "Hmm. I'm not sure. I spent an awful lot of time into that library. Oh oh! I know! People told me that the white thing that fell from the sky some time ago was called snow! It was the first time I ever saw it! It happens once a year, right? The books told me so!" |

| - Conspiring Against an Oracle (Konrad, Steve):
- chat stuff:
Me: I'm keeping a lookout for that woman and anyone from her cadre. Her abominable wolf died and I'm sure it was hers, which she used to keep people away and possibly retrieve it herself if she could. Zeiss: Also, I took note of your action.
Whil Breeze flies over them, when he thinks of the possibility of running into the oracle instead of her waiting at the inn, Konrad takes Steve aside to explain his worries. "Our client is a green mage, and that wolf was her aspect, I'm sure of it. I'm debating whether her aspect was able to 'possess' a wolf physically because she's able to do that, or because she's been messing with science or magic, or both. But if she doesn't get her fairy, the wolf comes back again, and it'll stay in the forest or come after us depending on what we do next. We need to work around this.""Aspect? If it were an aspect then why did the corpse remain? Shouldn't it have returned to raw magic and faded away?""Like I said, that's where my theory gets weird, but I sensed something innately aspect about it, I'm sure of it. Even if I'm wrong, it was definitely green magic. Either way, she's involved, and she won't leave until she has Breeze. At least, until she thinks she does.""If that's the case we need to secure the wolf's body for further study. We need to go back and do so immediately before anyone can collect it and destroy it.""What? I mean, sure, we can do that. What I'm saying is that I have a plan I want to run by you.""That's fine but if we leave the body out for anyone or anything to tamper with or steal we could lose a vital clue. Just saying."

| - (Mihai, NPCs):
Mihai stops dead, as if struck by something. "She knew..." - he mutters.
Saemon, Fedler and Mihai have stopped walking. They're a little behind Steve, Konrad, and Breeze, but they could easily catch up with the rest of the party. One group cannot hear what the members of the other group are saying.
Fedler replies to Mihai, "Knew what exactly?"
Mihai's eyes harden, and he keeps looking straight ahead - "Exactly where those Adjuncts corpses would be lying. She told me directly, they were rotting north of this village." - he grits his teeth - "Her exact words were the wolf must have taken them by surprise - right after they'd told the Fairy they'd protect her and take her in! She chalked it up to her abilities, and i thought fair enough, she is an Oracle after all. But then the Wolf had stopped directly in front of me, the guy she had hired, before hacking away straight at Breeze - and i didn't fucking see it!" - his voice becomes more hoarse; he starts to become visibly angered - "And that fucking Lloyd, knowing what a major obstacle the Wolf would be and practically telling me not to worry about it. I thought it was odd for him to say something so stupid, but it wasn't stupid at all. He knew!" - his hands ball into fists - "And i played right into it; stood there like a retard and almost let her hack me to pieces!"
It takes a few seconds for him to calm himself.
"But it can't be all there is to this. No way that Wolf was the right tool for the job if all she wanted was to capture Breeze. It couldn't even have feasibly caught her, let alone brought her back, even without all the stink it made, killing people and the wildlife, drawing attention to itself and making the thieves hunker down in that fort." - he takes a breath - "Just what the hell are they playing at..."
Fedler approaches Mihai, and gently puts her hand on his shoulder. Her blue eyes are fixed on his. "Don't worry," she replies in a soothing tone. "Whatever is happening, whoever is responsible, we'll figure it out. Okay?"
A soft smile appears on her face. Mihai looks at her in surprise. Not because he was losing control, but because she'd never been this nice to him.
sigh "Don't worry about me. I just got a bit miffed." - he says, reassuringly.
Then turns to Saemon - "If a Green Mage had somehow summoned that elemental to take over the Wolf and it just got destroyed like that, would it have an effect on the summoner?"
Fedler nods at Mihai, then turns towards Saemon to hear his answer. The chief clears his throat, then says, "Yes, but only at the moment the Aspect was... forcefully scattered. If a permanent binding was made with the Aspect however, the effects on the summoner would last longer."
He looks east, towards Waterglass.
"Not long enough for us to verify, given the time it will take us to return to the village."
Mihai's face turns grim. "Now for the scary question. How long would it take for the summoner to be able to do it again?"
Fedler glances at Mihai, while Saemon answers without missing a beat. "For a normal Aspect that has been scattered, which can only be summoned for a limited amount of time depending on the green mage's power, less than hour usually; would need ten minutes before they could be summoned again. For an Aspect with which a permanent binding was made, it would take a full day."
The time is now 1:58 PM, the 29th of April.
Mihai considers - "Well, i was just checking. But worst case scenario, we'll still know who to get some answers from. If she's seen this battle, the Oracle will most likely now know we have Breeze, so things might not be entirely stable when we get back. Also..." - he takes a breath before continuing - "If this does go on, our enemies this time won't be animals. They'll be people." - he looks specifically at Fedler - "Just like those poor sods covered in blood back at the woods."
Saemon is considering these words, probably debating over the validity of this theory. As for Fedler, she stares back at Mihai when he focuses is attention on her, and as he mentions the bodies left in the forest, she immediately turns away. She stands a little apart from the two of you, looking into the distance, then declares with a slightly wobbling voice, "For now, I want to go home."
She starts walking again.

- the plan already:
I'm not sure whether the dodgy replies are my fault or yours, but I'm fed up with it, so I'm just going to lay the plan out. This is what Konrad tells you, K feel free to read. This is basically just Konrad conferring with Steve before Mihai.
We're going to trick the oracle into rewarding us for capturing Breeze by preparing Breeze for an escape.
We give Breeze a drawstring sack to put some things in. She gets a knife and a vial of acid. We put her inside a sack of cupcakes(a new one). We hand her over to the oracle, she will likely put her in a cage(which is what the acid is for), and we collect our reward. Breeze will wait until morning to escape and fly to Fedler's home, who will ride on horseback with Breeze(and Breeze's cupcakes, and Yen, most likely) to the Coins outpost in Highwind, while we ride for the abandoned fort. Once Breeze joins the Coins, she's one of their own, and the oracle can't lay a finger on her.
This means we'll have Fedler's people, but not Fedler. Her alibi will be out hunting now that the wolf is gone. She'll have to take a detour back home if she wants to avoid the oracle, who will want to blame someone. The melted cage will tip her off that something's amiss. Breeze should remember to take the knife and the empty vial with her,. and the cage if she can help it. If all goes according to plan, and we put on a good poker face, Lavoie won't suspect us of any trickery whatsoever.

- observations:
Just off the top of my head, but:
The question is, how big a knife and acid vial you can give to a creature 6 inches tall, that will go unnoticed. Also, if Lavoie puts Breeze in a sealed container, using the acid will likely kill her. We're also relying on the incompetence of Lavoie, who's already shown a good level of cunning, and her professional gangster bodyguards, and the competence of Breeze, who pretty much has the mind of a child - and all this with us being completely unable to intervene if something goes wrong. And we're also assuming an organization such as the Coins - who are themselves probably hiding something from us in all this mess, by the way, would treat Breeze any better than Lavoie did, and would not just outright sell her to the Oracle for the right price - and that Breeze herself would want to join them in the first place.
Even if it did succeed, Breeze would be cut-off from us. Fedler unable to help. The Oracle would be pissed, because there's absolutely no way she can be that stupid, and we'd still be just as ignorant of this whole mess as we are right now.
If you guys don't mind, we'd probably better discuss this on Steam, later tonight.

The whole party enters Waterglass under the worried gaze of the villagers.
Yen comes running from across the plaza, and shouts, "Fedler!". The hunter kneels down to pick her up in her arms, and spins around once. She then kisses the little girl on the cheek, and says, "Hey there. Told you I would be okay."
Irving makes a beeline for Saemon, puts a hand on his back, and asks with a concerned tone, "Are you okay? Your clothes-" The chief interrupts him, a little embarrassed, "I'm fine, I'm fine." The mayor firmly nods, while Saemon takes a look at his humble attire which has indeed been a little roughed from the battle.
Velstar approaches the three of you with a gentle smile on her face. She looks at Steve a little longer than Mihai and Konrad, but finally asks all of you, "Is the wolf dead?"
Breeze has hid herself within Steve's bag. |

A normal examination of the corpse won't reveal anything other than this is flesh starting to rot.

"It was a real team effort but we managed to put the creature down. We almost didn't make it." Steve pitches his voice so that as many people as possible can hear what he is saying. "After I get some rest I'll compose a poem all about it. Why, I'll perform it at the inn for all of you fine people!" |

- Once the villagers hear the news that the cursed wolf has finally been put down, they begin to cheer with a force you wouldn't suspect. Where there was once only worry and fear, there is but joy and relief now that they know things will go back to normal. As for Velstar, she's not showing any sign of surprise, as she probably expected such success. It takes a while, but once the villagers have calmed down a little, they all turn towards the party and begin clapping for them. You can hear quite a few say thank you, and how awesome the five of you are.
Fedler, who is now holding Yen's hand, is undeniably embarrassed by the attention your group is receiving; as for Saemon, he appears more shocked than anything else.
Irving chooses this time to approach the three of you, and proclaims with an appreciative tone, "For your help in quelling this threat to our village, the people of Waterglass thank you. You will always be welcome here, and now that it is safe enough to celebrate the spring festival, we hope you will join us for this occasion as our most esteemed guests." The mayor turns towards Fedler and Saemon. "That includes you too."
The hunter faces the party, and with a small grin, she says, "I guess we won't have to wait in line for our meal." |
