| Kathryn plays her part well and responds to Symania's question with the same fervor as the other Senior Hunters. She observes the rest of the ceremony with clear enthusiasm and makes sure to be one of the first ones to congratulate Alani on her new position as Elder of the Moondancers. She then joins the other Senior Hunters and stands with them while the rest of the tribe go talk with their new leader.
"After seeing her lead your people these last few days, I'm sure she'll do a great job," Kat says, a glass of wine in her hand. "The Alliance will be that much stronger with her as Elder." |

| After taking his turn congratulating Alani, Carlos likewise joins the other senior hunters for some well-deserved booze.
"Aye, she done good." - he agrees with Kat's remark as he also raises his glass at Alani. |

| "I believe that too, Ser Elwin, with all my heart," says Symania. "Given the challenges we've all faced, I don't think we could have gotten a better outcome."
"Aye," agrees Terron, "But now we have to prepare for the next war."
"We'll do that together, too," says Jojo, "Just need to get these ceremonies out of the way." The look Terron gives Jojo at the mention of more ceremonies causes everyone to laugh except Shandalar, who isn't paying much attention to any of you.
"Just one more to go," says Zoe, "And I don't think it will be as formal as you think. You Moondancers are way more ceremonial than Harkenwold, from what I've seen."
"Thank the spirits," mutters Aymar. |

| Kathryn enjoys the conversation between the Senior Hunters and her friends, but she notices how lost in her thoughts Shandalar is at this moment and so she decides to ask her about it without drawing too much attention on them. "Hey Shandalar," Kat says in elven. "Is everything alright?" |

| "Sunset," says Symania, "Though Steward Lonetree said we could start earlier if we can get there sooner." Terron looks at the amount of admirers left to speak to Alani and then at the position of the sun in the sky. He sighs.
"We'll see," he says.
-------------------------------------
Shandalar is surprised when Kathryn talks to her, blinking several times while she gets her bearings, finally replying, "Oh, Ser Elwin. Things are fine. Why? Do you need help with something?" |

| "Oh no. You just looked preoccupied, so I was a little worried. I can imagine things haven't been... easy for you, these last few days. If you... well, if you feel like talking to someone about it, you can always count on me. Only if you want to though. I'd understand if you preferred someone else."
Kat is a little shy making this offer, as she doesn't want to appear overbearing to Shandalar, but she's also very sincere about it. |

| "The biggest help," says Symania after considering Hunter's question, "Would be new kits so they can take care of themselves." Terron nods in agreement.
"Tents we are working on, but they take a while to build to our specification," he says, "But they lost everything. Clothes, weapons, tools--money to help cover the replacement of those things would be most helpful. And we'll pay you back too. We always pay our debts." Aymar and Symania both agree with that.
-------------------------------------
Shandalar blinks at the offer, considering it past the time where most folks would have decided definitively one way or the other. Finally she nods to herself and says, "Actually, if you have some time later, I'll take you up on that offer." It's subtle, but Kathryn picks up on Shandalar looking at the other Senior Hunters with a little bit of anxiety, like she doesn't want them to hear what she might say. |

| "Hmm, those are both great ideas," Terron says, "Why don't me and Carlos worry about the tools while Hunter and Symania work on the clothes situation?"
"That's a wonderful idea" says Symania, "It will also let Alani and the others continue to focus on tents and food."
"Aye, leave that to us," says Aymar.
Jojo clears his throat and says, "Don't forget, Hunter, I still need your help tomorrow with that trade deal you suggested."
-------------------------------------
"That's fine, but I was thinking of maybe doing it at the castle later after the signing ceremony?" She looks apologetic as she adds, "It can't wait. I promised someone an answer tomorrow." |

| The white-haired knight nods at Shandalar, only to be interrupted by Jojo who asks her a question. "Sorry, what were you talking about?" After her friend explains what they were discussing, she briefly considers the idea and says, "Tomorrow morning sounds fine. I'll need your help explaining this deal to me though." |

| " Bright an' early, 'fore the heat sets in. Sounds good ta me." - Letter to cousin Walter:
Man oh man, Walter. Think i saw the thinnest an Elf could get and still breathe the other day. Remember the Goblin fort i told you about? Well, Commander there was one o' the good ones. Few days later we hit up one o' the bad apples an' freed their slaves, and lemme tell ya, you ain't never seen folk so haggard that weren't Undead, primo. All the while, the Boss was havin' his fun stickin' his pija in whatever prisionera he wan't inclined ta sink his teeth inta - an' i mean that literally, the cabron was a fucking cannibal if ya can believe it. Then the big General guy tracks us down, he figures we were the ones cuttin' in on his action (long crazy story, tell ya when i see ya), gives us a big ol' ultimatum - can back it up too, ya won't believe how many Gobs they were able ta bring smack in the middle o' Harken without anyone bein' the wiser. It's bad, i tell ya. We were able ta get the rest o’ the folk he’d taken prisoner back with us, but he’s kept a bunch o’ territory an’ I don’ like ta think what he’ll be doing with it. Folk say in a year he’ll be able to take Harken by storm, at the rate they breed.
So right now, we got about a hundred displaced starvin’ Fairfolk here – they don’t look so much like walkin’ corpses anymore, you’d almost mistake them fer Humans now, but they’re still needin’ room an’ board, and only so much Harkenwold can do ta keep’em goin. The Baron here been talkin’ it over with Fallcrest an’ Hammerfast, but the Warden seems ta be tied down wit’ his own people givin’ him a hard time, and Tejedor don’ think a frigging humanitarian crisis and a Gob invasion force warrant gettin’ the Council off their asses before the Festival. Think Uncle Gael might wanna send some help down here? Feel kinda weasel fer askin, but every time I look at their faces, well, I’d feel worse if I din’ try. Pretty sure the Baron be mighty grateful too. Anyone who’d cut through the red wax and sent some help right now’d be bound ta be in his good grace, that’s fer sure.
Anyway, ya look after yerself an’ see if ya don’ run anymore blast tests after sundown. Sumtimes I’m afraid the neighbors gon’ do ya in faster than that blasted contraption. Ya sane cousin Carlos.

| - Yorenan and Hunter:
As Hunter is making small talk with the Senior Hunters and his friends, he is approached by Yorenan. " Excuse me everyone but I need to borrow my nephew for a minute. Shouldn't take too long." " Nothing serious I hope," says Symania. " More like important rather than serious," says her son with a shrug. " So how about it Hunter? Coming?" Hunter looks between them and says " Of course." He stands up, and his eyes flicker over the Senior Hunters (one in particular). " See you all in a little bit." Everyone acknowledges him in some way, from a small wave to raising their glasses in salute, before Yorenan leads the two of them away from the bulk of the partygoers and further into the grassy fields of the wold. Yorenan smiles at Hunter the way he does right before proposing some dangerous course of action before launching right into it, " So, I'm no longer a Harkenwold Ranger." Hunter's eyes bug out. Not even a full-blown Ranger anymore? " What? R-really?" " Oh man, you should see your expression right now," says his uncle, doubling up in laughter. Hunter wipes the surprise off his face, and whips his tail. " Oh ha-ha, Uncle." Despite the annoyance, he's suppressing a smile too. " Sorry, couldn't resist," says Yorenan, flashing him his cheeky grin. He coughs and adopts his serious expression, saying, " But seriously, I am no longer a Harkenwold Ranger." " Oh..." Hunter puts two and two together, and it doesn't take operating a gnome's abacus to figure out why his uncle got demoted. " I'm sorry. You're really good at it." " Sorry for what? I wasn't punished, I was promoted. You are looking at the first Captain of the Fallcrest Rangers," he says with a proud grin, before adding in self-depreciating tone, " Of course, I'm also the only member of the Fallcrest Rangers." Remembering his talk with Leo, Hunter mutes his negative thoughts, before the other half of the news catches up with him. " Oh... Wait. So they're letting you start a new Ranger post? In Fallcrest? That's awesome!" " It is awesome. But that's also why I wanted to talk to you," he says. " I can't do it alone. I'm going to need experienced Rangers to help fill out my upper ranks and I'm hoping you'll consider joining up." Almost immediately, the answer comes confidently and resolute, albeit absent of an elaboration. " Yes." " Ha, good man," says Yorenan shaking his hand and clapping him on the back, " I knew you couldn't say no to your Uncle twice!" He laughs. Hunter gives him a half smile. " Well, yes and no, I'm still gonna see my brothers... But honestly, I passed on the better deal the first time around. I like being a Ranger. I like the work, and I like the cause. So, I want to be official." " Then consider this official. Welcome aboard, Senior Ranger Hunter Thrul," says Yorenan with a smart Nerathi salute. Hunter salutes him back. " Glad to be part of the team, Uncle. Anybody else you wanna bring on?" " Let's see," he says, counting them off on his fingers, " So far I've invited my former team Bjark, Eira, Eric, Elric, and Hush, as well as Gorduin and Shandalar. I've given all of them until tomorrow to give me an answer. I was going to do the same for you but honestly, I wanted you to be the first member I recruited, even if you weren't the first I asked. It means a lot to me that you said yes." Hunter skips a beat at the mention of Wolf Girl. " No problem! Things are going to change now that there's gonna be some Rangers in Fallcrest. Not a moment too soon, from what we've heard. To think, I used to aim for Captain back when I was still Sergeant. Things sure are working out." " I don't know about working out. We'll see how you feel about things once you see how much work it really is. Though speaking of work, I already have your first commission. " Your work with Ser Kathryn and your other friends is of the utmost importance and will take up the bulk of your duties going forward. Besides advising me on local matters while we get situated, I want you to continue with them as our liaison. What that means is you will do everything in your power to make sure your friends and the Alliance succeed. Can you do that?" Hunter smiles. " Absolutely. Thank you!" " Excellent. I'll be counting on you to help us coordinate our efforts," he says. " On a more personal note it gives me great peace of mind to know I have someone I can trust in this position." Hunter looks like he's about to mist up. He nods and blinks away some moisture. " I'm so honored. You have no idea." Then, he smirks and says, " After all, I wasn't your only candidate..." Yorenan laughs, " You know what the Rangers say: Always have a plan B and C." When they both stop laughing Yorenan adds, " Just keep this news to yourself until the signing ceremony. We are going to announce it right after." " Oh, cool, cool," Hunter says, lowering his voice, and looking around the field. " I'll try not to look so..." he starts smirking again, " uh, over-the-moon. Speaking of which, lately you seem to have a little 'feather' in your stride." " A little...feather in my--oh!" he says, finally catching on. He suddenly looks very cagey but the flush in his cheeks gives his feelings away as he says, " It was a...lovely gift." He clears his throat and adds, " It looks good in her hair. Not that her hair looks bad usually." Hunter gawks at his uncle's reaction. Wow, she's not here, man. " Uh-huh... do you want to know how to say that in Deep Speech, or are you fine with just using the hand signals?" His smile becomes more like a certain cat's, that ate a certain canary. He's still squirming a bit but manages to say, " T-the drow sign is surprisingly useful but I'll take whatever Deep Speech lessons you might offer. You never know when they might be useful." " Alright, I'll teach you something. The next time time you see her, just say this, and hopefully she'll laugh:" - Deep Speech:
"Your hair's been looking extra 'downy' recently. Are you using a new product?"
Yorenan and Hunter spend the next while practicing the phrase, before heading back to the others.
The rest of the party passes pleasantly enough, with Yorenan borrowing Hunter at one point, but it remains a matter of waiting for Alani to work her way through her well-wishers and admirers. She spends hours at it, finally wrapping up around 7 pm. After retreating back to her room for an hour long break, she leads a walking procession to Harken and on to Stockmer Keep made up of all those that are attending the Signing Ceremony. You guys also join in, and although the pace is a slow one, you all arrive back at the castle with over an hour to spare before sundown. Lady Emily has already begun preparations for the ceremony, with a makeshift platform having been constructed in the courtyard so that anyone who wants to can witness the signing. Guests from the surrounding villages have arrived in the meantime, and most of the village Elders are in attendance as well as various prominent Harkenwolders, such as the Amblecrowns. Dotted amongst the guests are your friends, from Bill and Sarah to John and Illy. Even Warlord Moz is here, with a small contingent of bodyguards including his surviving son. A selection of local ales and wines has been made available as well as a selection of simple, yet tasty, appetizers. Meanwhile, Sorsha and the band from the official celebration party are playing relaxing ambient music, setting a pleasant tone to the gathering. Before anyone can wander off, Lonetree says, " Please, follow me to the Baron's office. We can relax until the ceremony begins." And so he leads the way for you guys, Alani and her bodyguards, Symania, Terron, and Yorenan. As usual, everyone's weapons are taken by the pages, minus Kathryn's sword and the weapons of Alani's bodyguards. When you guys arrive at the office, you find Lord Stockmer, Leo, and Ludmilla already there sharing a drink and going over a stack of reports. They all greet you with tired waves, Lord Stockmer saying, " Welcome back. I take it the ceremony was a success?" " Aye," says Alani, " It went really well, once we finally started." Stockmer smiles knowingly and nods, saying, " I understand exactly what you mean. Please, have a seat everyone." After the drink situation is sorted, he continues, " Emily assures me we should be able to start within the hour. In the meantime, I think it best we go over how we want to do this. We'll need someone to give the opening speech welcoming everyone to the ceremony and saying what it is we stand for and what we hope to accomplish with this new alliance. We'll also need to finalize the signing order. " The signatories are: Ser Kathryn, leader of the White Well Alliance; Alani, Elder of the Moondancer Tribe; Leo, signing for the Harkenwold Rangers; and Jojo, as the regional manager of the Golden River Trading Company; and finally myself, as Baron of Harkenwold. " And finally, I also plan to announce at the end of the ceremony the promotion of Yorenan to lead the newly founded Fallcrest Rangers and that he will take this copy of the treaty to Fallcrest for the Lord Warden to sign." |

| Kathryn blinks at the news that Yorenan is being promoted to lead a new chapter of the Rangers, which didn't exist before now, and it takes several seconds before she manages a response. "...Wow. I suppose congratulations are in order. Good luck with that Yorenan. You'll be able to count on our support." |

| More congratulations are forthcoming from your party and the Senior Hunters, finally ending with Symania. She says, "Congratulations. Just be sure to visit when you can, I'll miss you."
"I will," says Yorenan to his mother, "And thank you everyone. As to who I might take, I've invited several people already including my now former team, and should have an answer tomorrow as to who is going. However, I have managed to recruit a second member." He smiles mischievously, ending with, "Right, Senior Ranger?" |
