Act 2: Upheaval II - Revelations and search

The drug dealer continues to gaze at the two mercenaries for a long moment until he finally decides to sprint out of the building through the back door, probably never to be seen again.

He seems to have forgotten about Amber too.

Mihai stares with a squint, but nothing he can do about it - "Nothing we can do about it. I think we're done here."

Konrad shakes his head. "What a coward. What a moron. I'm glad he's gone."

The three men gaze at the open door. The sound of Lukasz' footsteps have receded into the distance.

Now that Lukasz is gone Steve asks, "Now what?"

"Matras, though we can't get the drop on anything with this damn tail, that'll neither go away or just come out and attack us."

"Let's report to the Administrator then and let her know what is going on. Our profiles might be too high to be of any further use in this case."

"Let me go upstairs, and see if i can't spot any of them."

Mihai goes upstairs, and tries to spy on the streets below through the slits in the boarded windows. He'll be at it for a few minutes.

Steve shrugs. "It's a risk either way." He watches Mihai go. "What's he up to?" He follows Mihai to see.

Mihai studies the surrounding streets and alleyways, but sees only a group of tourists talking loudly about which landmark they want to see next.

Konrad detects no magic except for his own items.

Konrad opens the door to the front room to get Amber. "He told us what we wanted to know, and then he rabbited. Come, we're upstairs."

Amber is still keeping watch, but she has Florolf in her arms this time and she's petting him. The carbuncle has once again appeared out of nowhere.

"Oh, finally," Amber says while following the red mage out of the room. "Wait, he didn't even ask about me, uh? Figures."

She grimaces, appalled by Lukasz' behavior.

"Yes, your instincts were right. I hope it dogs him all the way to the Fingers." They go up.

"Stalling around here gains us nothing. We won't lose them, and just gives them time to recoup. Wharf is just a hop away, let's take the backstreets and see if they can keep the tail without giving themselves away. If i spot anything, i'll try to set up an ambush."

He notices Amber come up the stairs. Pauses a bit at Florolf, but is used to it by now.

"Fluffle, you there?"

Konrad nods. "And if we don't find them again, we go to Administrator first?"

There is no response.

"He must still be flying over us," Amber says.

Mihai thinks - "Not sure. If they're Noze, they'll want to take action as soon as possible. That might include pulling Matras off the Wharf, and we've given them enough of a lead by hanging around here."

He thinks a moment longer, but already knows what he'll say.

"I think we should keep going and move in on Matras. Worse case scenario, they're forced to stop us, and reveal themselves in the process."

"They might be working for one or more of the Szef. Or Edward, or the Elementals or any nation's spy apparatus or any number of smaller organizations. We've really put ourselves in the middle of a lot of things taking sides in choosing the leader of Myr."

"So our next lead is at the docks?" Amber asks. "Then that's where we should go. If Lukasz gets caught, he's gonna sing for them."

"Yes, he will. We can't afford to stall any longer."

"We best get going then." Steve follows the others out of the room.
